Annona muricata Extract Reduces Inflammation via Inactivation of NALP3 Inflammasome

Abstract: Annona muricata (AM) is a herb traditionally used to treat various human ailments. The mechanistic effect of Annona muricata extract on NALP3 inflammasome activation is not well understood. Objective: The present study investigates the inhibitory effects of Annona muricata extract on NALP3 inflammasome activation and its role in sepsis prevention. Methods: Sepsis was induced in mice by intraperitoneal injection of Escherichia fergusonii. Mice were treated with Annona muricata extract. Its effect on liver was a… Show more

“…Anti-inflammatory activity has been explored in fruit, leaves, root, and stem bark extracts of some Annona species [ 164 , 165 , 166 , 167 , 168 , 169 , 170 ], as shown in Table 4 . A. cherimola leaf extract exhibited a potent in vivo anti-inflammatory activity on induced-inflammation rats [ 167 ].…”

“…Several studies have been conducted to reveal the biological activity of other species of the genus Annona, including using the chloroform extract of Annona squamosa seeds as an anti-infective (Biba et al 2013). Its anti-inflammatory activity has also been recorded in the extract of the leaves, roots, and bark stem (Bitar et al 2019). Its leaves contain about 18 kinds of secondary metabolites of a phenolic or alkaline nature that have antioxidant activities (Mannino et al 2020), in addition to their use as insecticides, bactericides (Hernández-Fuentes 2016), antimicrobials, and antifungals (León-Fernández et al 2019).…”
