Annealing Behaviour of Some Salts of Trisethylenediamine Cobalt III

Abstract: The sensiti vity to radiation and thermal annealing of a number of salts of the trisethylenediamine cobalt III eation have been compared with their retentions when neutron irradiated under the same oonditions. No simple relation between these quantities has been found. The effect of dehydrating the irradiated hydrated chloride is to produce almost complete retention.Zusammenfassung Die Strahlenempfindlichkeit und thermische Ausheilung einer Anzahl von Salzen des Trisäthylendiammin-Kobalt(III)-Kations wurden be… Show more

“…SAITO [4] used the radioactive bromine produced by the (η, γ) reaction on [Co(NH 3 ) 6 X]Br a to study the effect of the nature of ligand X on retention. The effect of anion Y on the retention of cobalt in complexes of the type [Co(NH 3 ) 5 X] Y 2 and other cobalt ammine complexes has also been investigated [5,6], Research has been carried out using optical and geometric isomers of cobalt complexes [7,8,9] to determine the interconversion caused by irradiation but results vary for different complexes.…”

“…Several species are again formed but few have been identified with any degree of certainty. SCHMIDT [15] has investigated the (η, γ) reaction in [Ir(NH 3 ) 5 Cl] Cl 2 and [Rh(NH 3 ) 8 Br] (N0 3 ) 2 ; with the iridium complex, six cationic species and one neutral species of iridium were found by electrophoresis but only the one corresponding to the parent compound was characterised. The rhodium complex showed only 5% retention.…”

“…Dimotakis and coworkers in two articles (14,23) studied the recoil reaction of tris(ethylenediamine)cobalt(III) nitrate. They reported initial total retentions of 65% and 61% in which the total integrated neutron fluxes were 4.1 x 10^^ and 9.1 x 10^^ n/cm^, respectively.…”

Studies have been carried out using optical and geometric isomers of cobalt complexes [7,8,9] to determine the interconversion caused by irradiation but results vary for different complexes. GARDNER et al [10] have recently studied the (n,y) reaction in [Co(NH 3 ) 5 Cl]Cl 2 in which both M C1 and eo Co were used as tracers.…”
