Ankle dorsiflexion range of motion and landing postures during a soccer-specific task

Abstract: Introduction Ankle dorsiflexion range of motion (DF-ROM) has been shown to be associated with poor landing posture. However, previously used tasks have been controlled, and it is unclear whether clinical measurements of the ankle DF-ROM, are associated with landing positions during sport-specific task. This study sought to determine the relationship between ankle DF-ROM and landing positions. Methods Thirty male soccer players participated in this study. The ankle DF-ROM was measured by the weight bearing lu… Show more

“…The peak dorsiflexion angle in professional youth soccer players was reported to be 36.1 ± 4.8 deg., but the values for the individual players ranged from 26.1 to 45.9 deg. [39]. Thus, the approximate 20 deg.…”

“…The study sample was determined using the simple random method, and the sample size was determined based on the results of a previous study [9]. A priori power analysis was performed using G*Power software (version 3.1, University of Dusseldorf, Germany) based on the following reference values: α = 0.05, β = 0.80, r = 0.35, two-tailed, and bivariate normal model test.…”

“…For example, soccer players can focus on multiple tasks during a jumping motion, including both ball and landing mechanics. However, current landing technique tests may not be su cient to interpret sportspeci c landing quality [9]. Researchers claimed that the relationship between poor landing technique and DF-ROM could be better diagnosed with the soccer-speci c jump-landing task (SSJL), and they reported a moderate negative correlation (r = − 0.450, p = 0.006) between DF-ROM levels and SSJL in male soccer players [9].…”

“…Ankle dorsiflexion is essential during lower limb movements (Smith et al., 2019). Reduced ankle dorsiflexion may be associated with poor physical performance in futsal players due to its value in dynamic balance in futsal and jumping and landing tasks in football (Akbariid et al., 2023; I Ruiz‐Pérez et al., 2019). In addition, reduced ankle dorsiflexion range of motion (DFROM) is a predictor factor of anterior cruciate ligament injury (Amraee et al., 2017; Wahlstedt & Rasmussen‐Barr, 2015) and ankle sprain (Willems et al., 2005).…”
