Anisotropic breakdown of Fermi liquid quasiparticle excitations in overdoped La2−xSrxCuO4

Abstract: High-temperature superconductivity emerges from an un-conventional metallic state. This has stimulated strong efforts to understand exactly how Fermi liquids breakdown and evolve into an un-conventional metal. A fundamental question is how Fermi liquid quasiparticle excitations break down in momentum space. Here we show, using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, that the Fermi liquid quasiparticle excitations of the overdoped superconducting cuprate La 1.77 Sr 0.23 CuO 4 is highly anisotropic in momentu… Show more

“…Using the experimental values of v F and η, we find that Landau quasiparticles are coherent for ω < 1/v F η ∼ 0.19 eV. This energy scale is comparable to ω c -the energy scale below which ∝ ω 2 -and hence reenforces the interpretation of ω c as an energy scale related to the break down of Landau Fermi-liquid quasiparticle excitations [19].…”

“…2, yields γ nqp ∼ ln(C/ω c ), where C is an unknown constant. Hence γ nqp diverges only logarithmically in the limit ω c → 0 [19]. On the other hand, for large ω c the role of γ nqp will be less important.…”

“…31 and 32. Similar samples have been well characterized by inelastic neutron scattering (INS) 32 and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) 33 . The Sr stoichiometry, x, was measured by scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive xray analysis (EDX) and also by inductively-coupled plasma atomic-emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES).…”
