Electron spin resonance study of hindered internal rotation in the 3,5-dinitrobenzamide radical anion and related compounds

“…The radical anion of DNBA has been the topic of previous ESR investigations. 3,4 However the analysis by ESR spectroscopy of the restricted rotation of the amido group in this radical has not been reported up to now. Hindrance of rotation about the benzene-to-carbonyl bond was observed for a few benzamide radical dianions in liquid am-monia5 as well as for the benzaldehyde,6 4-nitrobenzaldehyde,7 acetophenone,8 and 4-nitroacetophenone7 radical anions.…”
