Aniline and some of its derivatives as corrosion inhibitors for nickel in 1M HCl solution

Abstract: The inhibiting action of aniline and some of its derivatives (o-, m-and p-anisidine) towards the corrosion behaviour of nickel in 1 M HCl solution has been studied using weight loss and polarization techniques. These compounds were found to retard the corrosion rate of nickel. At constant temperature, the corrosion rate decreases with increasing inhibitor concentration. On the other hand, at any inhibitor concentration, the increase in temperature leads to an increase in the corrosion rate. The activation ener… Show more

“…Owing to the acidity of the medium, aniline and its derivatives can be present as anilinium cations (Mann, 1936;Abd El Aal et al, 1999). These cations are assumed to be adsorbed through electrostatic interactions between the cations and the negatively charged metal surface.…”

“…One of the useful methods of controlling the corrosion process is the addition of inhibitors. Several researches were found in the literature about the use of inhibitors for nickel dissolution in acidic solution [6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14]. The aim of this paper is to investigate the effect of three β-aminoketone derivatives as inhibitors for corrosion of nickel in hydrochloric acid solution, to throw some light on the mechanism of corrosion and to calculate some quantum quantities.…”
