Abstract:Contributions of anharmonicity to the size and surface effects in the specific heat of the monatomic linear chain are investigated with anharmonic perturbation theory for small to intermediate number of atoms and for temperatures from 0 K up to 0, , the zero-temperature Debye temperature. It is shown that the surface specific heat Cs can reliably be extracted for chaiis of intermediate particle number, although size effects are still quite appreciable for chains of as many as 60 atoms. The main effects of anha… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
