Angular effects of transport critical currents in high-temperature superconductor tapes

Abstract: Measurements of the critical current dependence on the angular orientation of the applied magnetic field for (Bi, Pb)2Sr2Ca2Cu3O10 (BSCCO-2223)/AgMg-sheathed, mono-core BSCCO-2223/Ag-sheathed and Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 (BSCCO-2212) dip coat tapes are presented. We have demonstrated that the procedure of measurement is an important factor for the angular effect to show. For a magnetic field only applied during the measurement of Ic(θ) (during the rotation the magnetic field is set to zero) we have found a symmetric curv… Show more

“…3. These features of the angular hysteresis in for line-patterned Yb123 films are similar to those observed in Bi2223 tapes [3], [4], or in Y123 low angle bicrystal films [5], [6], though the ranges of , temperature, and magnetic field are different. For the plane-patterned Yb123 film, the shift of the peak from and the hysteresis in were not observed, as seen in Fig.…”

“…Thus, for these Y123 films, the magnitude of the hysteresis in curves corresponded to that in curves. The hysteresis in is observed also in Bi2223 tapes [3], [4], or in Y123 films with low angle grain boundaries [5], [6], and it is found to be closely related to the hysteresis in , in the way where the as a function of the perpendicular component of the applied field is similar to the as a function of the magnetic field applied perpendicular to the tape or film plane [3], [6]. For Y123 (A1) film, the as a function of the perpendicular component of the applied field was calculated and is shown as dashed lines with solid circle symbols in Fig.…”

“…5 Later, a similar effect was observed on niobium films 6 and high-temperature superconducting tapes. 7 This phenomenon manifests itself in the fact that, under small external magnetic fields, the critical current attains its maximum in a slightly tilted field. This results from the difficulties of the transition of the flux vortex lattice into the ground state with minimum energy.…”

“…The direct consequence is a sharp decrease of the critical current density with the magnetic field at relatively 'high' temperatures (T ~ 77 K) [2,3]. An additional characteristic of Bi-2223 materials is their high anisotropy, leading to a severe dependence of the critical current density with respect to the magnetic field direction [4][5][6][7].…”
