Angular distributions of neutron-nucleus collisions

Abstract: We derive the total and the differential cross sections with respect to angle for neutron-induced reactions from an analytical model having a simple functional form to demonstrate the quantitative agreement with the measured cross sections. The energy dependence of the neutron-nucleus interaction cross sections are estimated successfully for energies ranging from 5 to 600 MeV. In this work, the effect of the imaginary part of the nuclear potential is treated more appropriately compared to our earlier work. The… Show more

“…A configuration of π(i 13/2 h 9/2 ) ⊗ νh 9/2 has been proposed for band ED1, where the deeply down-sloping i 13/2 proton orbital drives the nucleus to an enhanced deformation relative to the ND structures [16]. Such an enhanced deformation has been confirmed by a quadrupole moment measurement [20]. Similar ED bands have been identified systematically in the neighboring isotopes 168 Hf [8], 170 Hf [15], and 175 Hf [16].…”

“…Consequently, the two groups of bands are labeled as ED and SD bands, respectively. The measured quadrupole moments of Q t ∼ 9.5 e b for band ED1 in 171 Hf [20] and ∼ 14 e b for the SD bands in 172 Hf [20] and 173−175 Hf [18,19] strongly support the above assessments when compared to Q t ∼ 6.2 e b for the ND band [521]1/2 in 171 Hf [21]. In addition to our recent publication on the strongly deformed bands in 171,172 Hf [16], an extensive study of the ND level structure of 171 Hf has also been carried out.…”

“…In recent years, there have been many theoretical and experimental studies of heavy-ion reactions with light projectiles which have low binding energy [1][2][3][4][5]. Such weakly bound nuclei as 6,7 Li and 9 Be are of great importance in forming super-heavy nuclei and understanding the nuclear structures.…”
