Angular dependence of theppelastic-scattering analyzing power between 0.8 and 2.8 GeV. II. Results for higher energies

Abstract: Measurements at 18 beam kinetic energies between 1975 and 2795 MeV and at 795 MeV are reported for the pp elastic-scattering single spin parameter A ooon ϭA oono ϭA N ϭ P. The c.m. angular range is typically 60-100°. These results are compared to previous data from Saturne II and other accelerators. A search for energy-dependent structure at fixed c.m. angles is performed, but no rapid changes are observed.

“…A complete listing of previous analyzing power measurements in the kinetic energy range 0.45-2.5 GeV can be found in the SAID database [14]. Recent measurements at discrete kinetic energies T lab >1 GeV are from the SATURNE II facility [47,48,49,50,51,52]. At lower kinetic energies T lab <1.0 GeV high precision measurements of the analyzing power at discrete energies have been performed at LAMPF [53,54,55] and recently at IUCF [56,57,58,59].…”

“…18 depicts the analyzing powers for pp scattering at beam momenta of 3.01 and 3.75 GeV/c. The data are from measurements at SATURNE [27] and at ZGS ANL [67]. At the beam momentum of 3.01 GeV/c our [27], while the squares are the results from ZGS ANL [67].…”

“…At the COSY facility data were taken [24,25] at beam momenta from 1 to 3.3 GeV/c and for scattering angles from 30 • to 90 • . At SATURNE the measurements were done [27,28] at beam momenta from 2.57 to 3.61 GeV/c and for proton scattering angles typically from 60 • to 100 • . In addition, within this momentum range there are analyzing powers available from ZGS ANL [62,63].…”
