Angular dependence of the cyclotron effective mass in organic superconductors

Abstract: We report measurements of the de Haas-van Alphen (dHvA) effect in the organic superconductors a-(BEDT-TTF) 2 (NH 4 )Hg(SCN) 4 (T c ~ 1 K) and K-(BEDT-TTF) 2 CU(NCS) 2 (7V«10 K) in fields up to 15 T and temperatures down to 0.45 K. For the first time, we determine the angular dependence of the cyclotron effective mass m c , and the orientation of up to four spin-splitting zeros of the dHvA signal. The angular dependence of the amplitude of the dHvA oscillations is quantitatively explained, and the mass enhancem… Show more

“…26 Since the present system has a very long mean free path l ϳ1000 Å at TϳT c , as inferred from quantum oscillation studies, 34 and since we can expect that l becomes even longer in the superconducting state at T→0, the in-plane transport of this system lies well within the clean limit (l ӷ). Thus, we cannot ascribe the difference between n s /m* and n n /m* to impurity scattering.…”

“…The magnetic grid molecule Mn(II)- [3 × 3] has been studied by high-field torque magnetometry at 3 He temperatures. At fields above 5 T, the torque vs. field curves exhibit an unprecedented oscillatory behavior.…”

“…Currently, it finds application in a wide range of materials, e.g. heavy fermion compounds [2], low-dimensional organic metals [3], hightemperature superconductors [4], two-dimensional electron gases [5], or in the recently discovered superconductor MgB 2 [6].…”

“…Hence, the estimate of the effective electron mass based on the L-K formula may lead to the errors up to 30%. This can be an explanation of the difference of the effective electron masses obtained from the dHvA effect and cyclotron resonance measurements (for example, in [10] and [11]). This problem was examined numerically by N. Harrison et al [12] at zero warping W of Fermi surface(FS).…”
