Angiotensin II, via AT1 and AT2 Receptors and NF-κB Pathway, Regulates the Inflammatory Response in Unilateral Ureteral Obstruction

Abstract: Abstract. Inflammatory cell infiltration plays a key role in the onset and progression of renal injury. The NF-B participates in the inflammatory response, regulating many proinflammatory genes. Angiotensin II (Ang II), via AT 1 and AT 2 receptors, activates NF-B. Although the contribution of Ang II to kidney damage progression is already established, the receptor subtype involved in the inflammatory cell recruitment is not clear. For investigating this issue, the unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) model wa… Show more

“…NF-κB was first extracted from B lymphocytes, and it was involved in the process of immune stress, inflammation, cell proliferation and apoptosis (Esteban V et al, 2004). Research shows that NF-κB was activated in many cancers, including gastric cancer (Lee SY et al, 2008).…”

“…Ang‐II was shown to exert its actions mainly through engagement of Ang‐II type 1 (AT1), which is highly expressed in kidney (Edwards and Aiyar 1993; Esteban et al. 2004). Both TNFR1 and TNFR2 are also expressed in glomeruli, and activation of intrinsic glomerular cells by soluble TNF requires TNFR1 signaling (Taubitz et al.…”

“…An abundance of research has unraveled that NF-κB is involved in the process of immune stress, inflammation, cell proliferation and apoptosis (Esteban et al, 2004;Gao et al, 2007). Recent evidence shows that NF-κB was activated in many cancers, including gastric cancer (Sasaki et al, 2001), breast cancer (Cao and Karin, 2003), and its continuous activation could be a sign of a variety of solid tumors (Shishodia and Aggarwal, 2004).…”
