Angiographic results after minimally invasive coronary bypass grafting using the minimally invasive direct coronary bypass grafting (MIDCAB) approach1

Abstract: Since stenosis of the anastomosis may occur after minimally invasive, beating heart coronary bypass grafting, postoperative angiography should be performed to provide quality control and to guide appropriate further treatment. The latter is necessary if the stenosis is accompanied by reduced run-off and evidence of myocardial ischemia during stress test. An improvement of early stenosis at the anastomosis may be expected in more than 25%.

“…[6][7][8][9][10] The reasons for conversion were intramyocardial LAD, LITA injury and hemodynamic instability. 8 The postoperative patency rate was 88%-99%, [7][8][9][11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19] as shown in Table 1. Moussa et al reported that the postoperative patency rate varied according to the surgical technique.…”

“…Diegeler and associates 21 performed detailed angiographic studies in their single-center series of patients who had MIDCAB between 1996 and 1998. They were able to get angiograms early postoperatively in 81.5% of patients as well as at 6-month follow-up in 47.9% of patients.…”

“…41,100,101 Within one week after off-pump surgery (both thoracotomy and sternotomy incision) the overall patency rate is reported to vary between 95 and 99%, [102][103][104] and for IMA-grafts (mainly thoracotomy incisions) between 97 and 100%. 105,106 Mack reported the intraoperative patency rate for IMA-grafts to be 99%. 107 The randomized study including 120 patients that was a part of paper II in this thesis, stated the intraoperative patency rate of IMA-grafts to be 100% and of vein grafts 97%.…”
