Angiogenese und Dichte dendritischer Zellen korrelieren nicht mit der metachronen Fernmetastasierung beim kurativ operierten Rectumcarcinom

Abstract: Angiogenesis and density of dendritic cells in rectal cancer are not prognostic factors for metachronous distant metastasis and, therefore, cannot serve as selection parameters for adjuvant therapy.

“…According to the consensus of the NIH (National Institute of Health), patients with UICC stage I rectal cancer (pT1/2, pN0) are not enrolled to adjuvant radiochemotherapy, whereas patients with UICC stage II rectal cancer (pT3/4, pN0) undergo adjuvant radiochemotherapy [20]. However, reflecting our collective, 24.2% (8/33) of UICC stage II develop distant metastases (without local recurrence) after curative resection, which means that -from the theoretical aspectradiochemotherapy means 'over-therapy' in 75.8% of patients; this is also explained by other authors [21]. Consequently, identification of prognostic factors to predict individual outcome, to select appropriate adjuvant treatment and follow-up options, and, finally, to analyze and compare treatment results is a crucial issue [22].…”
