“…While it is possible that this patient's thrombus developed secondary to a prothrombotic state as a result of an unidentified malignancy such as a pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor, 2 3 4 it remains unlikely and unsubstantiated in her presentation. Previous reports have identified rare patients with TSC who developed vascular abnormalities such as aortic aneurysm or rupture, 5 6 which could present a possible source for initial thrombotic growth in this patient, however, there was no structural deformity of the aorta identified in any imaging modality utilized throughout her hospital course.…”

“…2 Although these entities do not occur frequently, they can risk patients’ lives. 4 Multiple case reports have associated TSC with AA since 1966 5 however only 4 cases involved the thoracoabdominal aortic segment (Table 1). 6-9…”

“… 9 In the majority of the reports, open repair has been applied using either Dacron, polytetrafluoroethylene, or biological conduits; an endovascular procedure for a saccular aneurysm in the descending thoracic aorta of a young adult has also been described. 14 Because recurrent, anastomotic aneurysms and new ones have been encountered in children with TSC, continued surveillance after repair is recommended. 10 …”
