The effect of norethandrolone (17\g=a\-ethyl-19-nortestosterone), an anabolic steroid, on growth in the female guinea-pig under normal conditions and conditions of mild stress, has been studied. Norethandrolone (and hydrocortisone acetate) reduced the adrenal weights of the test animals. Both norethandrolone-treated and hydrocortisone-treated groups of gui nea\x=req-\ pigs stressed by heart puncture under ether anaesthesia continued to gain weight, whilst the control animals showed a temporary loss in weight. The results suggest that norethandrolone inhibits the release of ACTH in the female guinea-pig.
