Abstract: Abyssal peridotites recovered directly from mid-ocean ridges (mid-ocean ridge peridotites hereafter) are generally interpreted to be formed as a residue after partial melting and melt extraction in the adiabatically upwelling mantle beneath mid-ocean ridges.
