We find that early genomes from Asian phenotypic affinity, suggesting that human diversity in SEA was strongly influenced by 82 population … Show more

“…A subsequent migration of nomads from the Eurasian steppe left 2/28 an equally important footprint in the genomes of present-day people, and may have introduced proto-Indo-European languages into Europe 15 . Similar processes have been inferred in the transition to agriculture in other regions of the world -including Central-South Asia 16 and Southeast Asia 17,18 -where present-day individuals bear diverse ancestries from both original hunter-gatherer populations and from subsequent migrations.…”

“…We note that while the substantial contribution into Ami seems at odds with the lower f 4 statistics compared to Japanese, the lineage admixing with Ami shares only a very short branch with IK002, suggesting a contribution from a distinct group with an early divergence from the IK002 lineage. As IK002 also shares ancestry with early Hòabìnhian hunter-gatherers [49] , a contribution of those to the ancestors of Ami would also be compatible with this result. However, there is still lack of ancient genome data to understand the peopling history of East Eurasians.…”

“…This study takes advantage of whole-genome sequence data from the 2,500-years old Jomon individual, IK002, dissecting the origins of present-day East Asians. IK002 is modelled as a basal lineage to East Asians, Northeast Asians/East Siberians, and Native Americans (basal East Eurasians: bEE)( Fig.4 ), supporting a scenario in which their ancestors came through south of the Himalayas mountains and migrated from Southeast Asia towards the north [6,49] . We clearly show the early divergence of IK002 from the common ancestor of the other ancient and present-day East Eurasian and Native Americans ( Fig.1C ).…”

“…ISEA consists of the Sultanate of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, The Philippines, Singapore, and Timor Leste/East Timor. I also include data from Taiwan, as archaeological, biological, and genetic research shows the deep connections with MSEA and ISEA (Hung et al 2007;Matsumura et al 2019;McColl et al 2018). Similarly, a recent example of house structures from the Dian region of southern China is included, as this area has longstanding connections with the Dongson culture of northern Vietnam (Yao 2018).…”
