ANCAEE: A Novel Clustering Algorithm for Energy Efficiency in Wireless Sensor Networks

Abstract: One of the major constraints of wireless sensor networks is limited energy available to sensor nodes because of the small size of the batteries they use as source of power. Clustering is one of the routing techniques that have been using to minimize sensor nodes' energy consumption during operation. In this paper, A Novel Clustering Algorithm for Energy Efficiency in Wireless Sensor Networks (ANCAEE) has been proposed. The algorithm achieves good performance in terms of minimizing energy consumption during dat… Show more

“…Those routing algorithms can be divided into two types. One type is the distributed clustering routing algorithm, which groups sensor nodes into clusters and balances the energy consumption by the cluster head selection strategy in order to extend the network lifetime [3], [4], [5]. The other type is the centralized routing algorithm, which adopts optimization strategy such as ant colony optimization, linear program and heuristic approach, to find a energy-balance rout based on the global information of the network topology and energy consumption [6], [7], [8], [9], [10].…”

“…In the literature, several other clustering protocols for WSNs have been presented, we can enumerate the works done in [8,9,27] which are protocols based on the Cluster Head First approach while the protocols presented in [2,3] are based on the Cluster First approach. Unfortunately, none of these protocols considers the security aspect in its implementation.…”

“…Several clustering protocols for wireless sensor are presented in the literature [7,8,9,10,11,12,13]. While some of these protocols show a new method of partitioning the network with a view to minimize the energy consumed by the sensors [7,8,9], some others handle the security aspect [10,11,12,13] during the clustering in order to secure communications in the network.…”

“…This protocol allows nodes to find out and maintain routes to an arbitrary target for which it has two mechanisms i.e., route discovery and route maintenance. Ademola P. Abidoye, Nureni A. Azeez, Ademola O. Adesina, Kehinde K. Agbele [12] used LEACH(Low-energy adaptive clustering hierarchy) which is the earliest network protocol that uses hierarchal routing. In this, all the nodes are formed into groups called clusters and one node is arbitrarily selected as a cluster head.…”
