“…Geochemical characteristics and the core-mantle-rim structure of zircon in charnockite further constrain metamorphic anatexis. Extensive U-Pb zircon geochronology studies have assessed the morphology, internal structure, and Th/U ratio of zircon in various rocks (Geisler, Schaltegger, & Tomaschek, 2007;Hoskin & Schaltegger, 2003;Rubatto, 2002;Rubatto, Gebauer, & Compagnoni, 1999;Zhao et al, 2015), which aid in our understanding of the origin of zircon and the geological significance of U-Pb zircon chronology. The two concordant U-Pb analyses of fuzzy mantle oscillatory-zoned zircons yielded a weighted mean 207 Pb/ 206 Pb age of 2,474 ± 15 Ma (Figure 6a), which is likely to represent the diagenetic age of intermediate charnockite.…”

“…Complex textures and U-Pb zircon ages in high-grade metamorphic rocks can result from multiple episodes of recrystallization, presence of a melt, solid-state processes and fluids, among others (Corfu et al, 2003;Kröner et al, 2014;Zhao et al, 2015).…”

“…On the other hand, ages recorded in mafic granulites (weighted mean 207 Pb/ 206 Pb ages of 2095 ± 15 Ma and 2041 ± 24 Ma, BUY-54-11) and mesocratic gneisses (concordia age of 2087.0 ± 7.3 Ma, BUY-57-11) show more complex textures, including homogeneous cores rims, evidences of dissolution-precipation and anhedral crystals with rounded boundaries, particularly in the case of BUY-57-11. These textures could indicate that these zircons record high-grade metamorphism (Corfu et al, 2003;Zhao et al, 2015), although the presence of prismatic zircon crystals with oscillatory zoning and Th/U > 0.1 may indicate a magmatic origin (Hoskin and Schaltegger, 2003, and references therein). However, Th/U > 0.1 were also reported for zircons in high-grade metamorphic rocks (Santosh et al, 2007;Zhang et al, 2016).…”

“…The high-pressure granulites were first discovered in the Huai'an-Xuanhua region, and then, similar rocks have been illustrated in the Hengshan, Fuping, Zanhuang, Qianlishan-Helanshan, and Jiaobei regions (Figs. 1 and 2; Zhai et al 1992Zhai et al , 1996Guo et al 1993Guo et al , 2001Guo et al , 2005Li and Qian, 1994;Liu et al 1998Liu et al , 2006Liu et al , 2013Zhao et al 2000Zhao et al , 2005Zhao et al , 2014O'Brien et al 2005;Yin et al 2009Yin et al , 2014Zhou et al 2010;Xiao et al 2010Xiao et al , 2013Tam et al 2012a, b). The existence of high-pressure granulite in the craton has led to an extensive discussion on its tectonic implications, and one debate is whether the genesis of these rocks was similar to those exposure in the Phanerozoic orogens.…”

“…Similar P-T paths for the Liu et al (2013) mafic and politic granulites have been reconstructed; they are clockwise with an isobaric cooling stage following earlier isothermal decompression stage (Liu et al 1998(Liu et al , 2013Zhou et al 2004;Tam et al 2012a, b). Metamorphic ages range from 1960 to 1790 Ma have been reported in the region (Zhou et al 2008;Tam et al 2011;Liu et al 2013;Zhao et al 2014), though it is unclear whether these ages refer to a single metamorphic event or not.…”
