“…The AG is located in the posterior of the inferior parietal lobe, and serves as a central hub for different subsystems ( 46 ). The AG plays a role in semantic processing, reading, and word comprehension, and is linked to higher memory scores ( 47 ). Over the course of SCH progression, patients exhibit increases in brain damage, with chronic SCH patients exhibiting the disruption of normal bilateral AG asymmetry and a reversal of the normal left > right asymmetry relative to HC individuals ( 48 ).…”

“…Particular attention may deserve the cingulate cortex, which has both a relevant topological role (an intermediate spatial position bridging the anterior and posterior blocks) and is a key element of global connectivity (Maldonado et al, 2012; Rolls, 2019; Wu et al, 2016), possibly associated with human‐specific features (Ardesch, Scholtens, Li, et al, 2019). As a spatial bridge between the anterior and posterior district, it is a key pathway between the precuneus and the frontal cortex (Tanglay et al, 2021; Wenderoth et al, 2005). With this in mind, we may wonder whether the development of the prefrontal cortex in humans and apes (Parks & Smaers, 2018; Semendeferi et al, 2002) has influenced their topological brain parameters in terms of network proximity.…”

“…The DMN is the neural basis of many important functional activities of humans, including cognition, consciousness, etc. ( Hu et al, 2022 ; Oyarzabal et al, 2022 ; Wang et al, 2022 ) It participates in a lot of neurophysiological processes, such as the evaluation of episodic memory, introspection, monitoring of the external environment, emotional processing, and cognitive control ( Greicius et al, 2003 ; Arsenault et al, 2018 ; Li J. et al, 2021 ; Oyarzabal et al, 2022 ; Tanglay et al, 2022 ). Studies have confirmed that in the state of chronic pain, the activation-inactivation mechanics of the DMN is in disorder ( Baliki et al, 2008 ; Shen et al, 2019 ).…”
