Anastomosing hemangioma (ah) is a rare subtype of primary vascular tumour that can, clinically and radiologically, present similarly to malignant renal tumours such as renal cell carcinoma (rcc) and angiosarcoma. Rarely seen in the genitourinary system, the ah we report here occurred in a 40-year-old male patient diagnosed initially with rcc based on imaging and successfully treated by laparoscopic left radical nephrectomy, with adrenal sparing and perihilar lymph node dissection. The pathologic diagnosis of ah can be challenging on small biopsy specimens; we therefore opine that it is appropriate to excise these lesions to facilitate diagnosis and definitively exclude common renal cancers. However, in this review, we describe some radiologic and pathologic distinctions between ah and malignant tumours.

Anastomosing hemangioma, a benign vascular neoplasm histologically simulating angiosarcoma, is newly recognized and has been described primarily in the genitourinary tract. Here, we present a case of renal anastomosing hemangioma originating in the left kidney of a 32-year-old Chinese man with detailed computerized tomography (CT) and enhanced CT image information. The patient had no obvious signs and symptoms. The tumor was incidentally found by color Doppler imaging during a routine heath check-up. Subsequently, a detailed CT and an enhanced CT scan were performed. The tumor was well demarcated, and mahogany brown lesions, which measured 2.6 cm in maximum diameter, were observed. Microscopically, the tumor shows a lobular architecture with alternating cellular areas composed of anastomosing sinusoidal capillary-sized vessels lined by hobnail endothelial cells and edematous, hyaline paucicellular areas. Cytologically, the tumor cells were generally bland and exhibited positivity for CD31 and CD34 immunohistochemically. The patient had good status without evidence of tumor recurrence 21 months after the surgery. Abstract. Anastomosing haemangioma (AH) is a recently described, unusual variant of capillary hemangioma that appears to be unique to the genitourinary system, with a particular proclivity for the kidney. AH is a subtype of capillary haemangioma, which is rarely encountered in clinical practice, particularly in the liver. We herein present the case of a 57-year-old woman with an incidental finding on magnetic resonance imaging of a local lesion in the liver, sized 3.3x3.0 cm. The patient underwent hepatectomy with a good postoperative recovery. The histopathological diagnosis was AH of the liver. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case report of hepatic AH.
