Analyzing the Role of Interactivity in User Experience

Abstract: An experimental investigation into the role of interaction in user experience (UX) with a controlled manipulation of interactivity features (e.g. avatars, interactive video) in a university information website is reported. The more interactive version had better affect and hedonic ratings, even though its perceived usability was worse. Analysis of qualitative data showed users were attracted to the interactive features, although they complained about poor usability. The results of the experiments are discussed… Show more

“…In the context of using a wearable device, a user is mainly concerned with information feedback via the interface between him/herself and the wearable device with associated applications. Interactivity is found to play an important role in building a positive relationship between the device and its users, which can make a device with a higher interactivity level more attractive to users (Sutcliffe & Hart, 2017). In the context of personal health record services, interaction plays a significant role in influencing adoption-related behaviors (Hietala et al, 2009).…”

“…Analyzing learning patterns is important for a better understanding of learners' behaviors and experience, which can help researchers facilitate the design of learning systems, materials, or activities (Sutcliffe et al, 2016). With the increasing use of digital learning materials in higher education, the accumulated operational log data provide opportunities to analyzing how students learn with e-books.…”

“…Next for the evaluation work of UX discussed the whole user experience (Pucillo et al, 2014), measurement of UX gives response for the design performers (Effie Lai-chong Law et al, 2014), to measure the design and display (Liu, Dey, Ulupinar, Luby, & Mao, 2015), has been used on the interactive multimedia (Sutcliffe, Hart, Sutcliffe, & Hart, 2016). While to know the test result of UX, and then there are many quantitative instruments can be done, including the instrument using User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ) which is available online.…”
