Analyzing the energetic performances of AMR regenerator working with different magnetocaloric materials: Investigations and viewpoints

Abstract: Magnetic refrigeration is an ecofriendly solid state technology employing magnetocaloric materials in an Active Magnetic Regenerating refrigerant cycle (AMR), a Brayton-based thermodynamical cycle. Magnetic refrigeration is based on magnetocaloric effect (MCE), a physical phenomenon that couples an external magnetic field with the magnetic moments of magnetocaloric materials. In the case of ferromagnetic materials, MCE is a warming as the magnetic moments of the atom are aligned by the application of a magneti… Show more

“…The behavior of a caloric heat pump is described through a 2-D model, already introduced [18,19] and validated [20][21][22] in previous investigations. The geometry of the heat pump sees a parallel-plate regenerator made of caloric material, separated by channels in which the Heat Transfer Fluid (HTF) crosses the regenerator.…”

“…Magnetic materials are nowadays used in many applications [55,56]: among them the most commons are as refrigerants of solid-state magnetic refrigeration [57][58][59] and to increase the efficiency of the electric motors. One of the ways to increase electric motor efficiency is achieved by replacing traditional methods by Soft Magnetic Composite (SMC) or iron powder materials.…”
