This paper studies the impact of a recent increase in the ratio of automated machines to ordinary capital (RAMOC) on the bias of technical change in the manufacturing industry and the mechanism influencing this. Using panel data of A-share listed manufacturing companies on the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges from 2012 to 2019, combined with the Xtfrontier model and trans-log production function, we measure the index of the bias of technical change of the manufacturing industry in China. Furthermore, we adopt a fixed effects model to test the impact of an increase of investment in automated machines on the bias of technical change. We also use an intermediary effect model to examine the intermediate mechanism from the perspectives of capital and skill matching. The results show that technical change in the manufacturing industry is biased toward automated machine capital. An incremental increase in RAMOC leads to technical change in the manufacturing industry becoming biased toward automated machine capital, wherein the intermediary mechanism is the labor structure effect. Based on industrial linkage, the investment in automated machines in the upstream (downstream) manufacturing industry increases, the technical change of the downstream (upstream) manufacturing industry is biased toward automated machine capital, and the forward linkage effect is greater than the backward linkage effect. This research enhances understanding of (1) the direction and characteristics of technical change in China, (2) how to improve the output efficiency of automated machines, (3) differences in factor revenue distribution, and (4) how new growth points in the economy can be cultivated. They show that we should encourage and support investment in automated machines, vigorously promote technical change to bias toward automated machine capital, improve the skill level of the labor force, and strengthen the match between automated machines and labor.

After the Industrial Revolution that took place in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries in Europe, increases in the machinery used, population and the need for energy have boosted the reliance on fossil fuels and the release of greenhouse gases. As a result of this, global temperatures, which had been in balance with the natural greenhouse effect, have increased, and the problem of climate change emerged. The search for a solution to this across boundaries phenomenon started to attract international attention in the 1970s. Since parochial actions cannot prevent climate change, the main arguments have concentrated on the fact that a solution is possible not through local or regional efforts but global ones, and each country’s contribution in proportion to its capabilities is necessary. Recent research has shown that if no solution is found, the temperatures will continue to increase even more, resulting in a severe threat to the living on earth. This article examined the factors that bring about climate change as a global problem, the symptoms and efforts related to this, and Turkey’s stance within this global effort.

This study aims to analyse the potential market for emissions permits that the European Union (EU) established in 2005, in a first-mover attitude with regard to the frame of the Kyoto Protocol. To this end the integrated assessment Regional Integrated Climate and the Economy (RICE) model is employed, adapted to the specific objectives intended. A referential paretian-optimum price of US$25.63 tCO2 is obtained around the year 2007, which duplicates the hypothetical harmonized carbon tax. The ratio between the willingness to pay and the net environmental damages as a result of adverse climate change point to the high degree of commitment and the leadership initiative that seem to be assumed by the EU-15, the extended EU including Eastern European countries and the European OECD as a whole, with the hinterland geo-strategic referent represented by Russia and the Ukraine.
