Analyzing the corrosion and tribocorrosion performances of monolayer TiO₂ and bilayer TiO₂-SiO2 coatings at different SBF temperatures

Abstract

In this study, using commercial pure titanium (Cp-Ti) samples, monolayer TiO2, and bilayer TiO2-SiO2 coatings were produced. The aim of this study is to compare the effect of monolayer and bilayer coatings on corrosion and tribocorrosion behaviors of the preferred Cp-Ti material which is preferred especially in applications such as dental implants at different temperatures in simulated body fluid (SBF). XRD and SEM were used for the structural characterization of the coatings. Then, the adhesion strengths of monolayer and bilayer coatings were investigated. Corrosion and tribocorrosion performances of the coatings were carried out at different temperatures due to the change in oral environment temperature due to hot food and drinking consumption. Adhesion strengths corrosion and tribocorrosion performances of untreated, monolayer, and bilayer Cp-Ti samples were examined, and the best performance was seen in the bilayer coatings.
