The rapidly changing software industry presents challenges in teaching software engineering concepts and skills, especially in the area of DevOps. This encompasses both technical aspects, such as pipeline automation, and non-technical ones, such as culture, principles, and team interaction modes. This presents a significant challenge and there is high demand for skilled DevOps practitioners. To address these challenges, we propose a teaching strategy for DevOps that is based on real-world experiences from companies adopting DevOps and real projects. The strategy incorporates two teaching techniques: Research-based Teaching and Open Source Software projects. Our findings can help educators effectively plan, implement, and evaluate DevOps courses. The results also highlight several opportunities for practitioners to benefit from academic environments and experiment with new ideas to train abilities expected in new hires.

The speed of technologies evolve makes society need to increase the adaptability of its production processes, increasing its agility and effectiveness. Japan, as a pioneer of this proposal, launches society 5.0, focused on the use of technologies to solve social and economic problems. One of the largest sectors with influence on the economy and that stands out for its constant changes, is the software development industry. This article presents a didactic guide that allows the adoption of good development practices, strengthening soft and technical skills through a process of continuous evaluation in students of systems engineering programs. The guide consists of the definition of an architectural model for the construction of a REST API, the definition of a preventive quality model based on DEVOPS, the configuration of the model and the evaluation of the application of the model in a course. The implementation of this guide improves the competitiveness of students in relation to their professional profile, providing the industry with better trained people with the potential to improve current software development processes.

DevOps practices arose to coordinate development and operation teams and ensure rapid and reliable new software releases. Although there is a considerable demand for preparing new professionals in these practices, fewer studies investigate teaching methods in DevOps Education. Our dissertation investigates the teaching methods reported in the literature and in interviews with DevOps educators. We also studied their connection with DevOps educational challenges. Our results indicate teaching DevOps by adopting practical teaching methods in a collaborative learning environment.
