Die Ange~:andte Mak~-oniolekulare Chemie 62 ( I 977) 85-90 ( NI-. 891 ) SUMMARY:The reactivity of some monomer vinyl ketones in the radical copolymerization with methyl methacrylate and vinyl acetate was studied on the basis of the Taft equation. It was concluded that the relative reactivities of the vinyl ketones in radical reactions increase with increasing electron-withdrawing nature of the vinyl ketone substituent. Polar and steric effects d o not affect the reactivity. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG:Die Reaktivitat verschiedener monomerer Vinylketone bei der radikalischen Copolymerisation mit Methylmethacrylat und Vinylacetat wurden auf der Basis der Taft-Gleichung untersucht. Es ergab sich, daR die relative Reaktivitat der Vinylketonmonomeren mit zunehmender Elektronegativitat der Substituenten der verschiedenen Vinylketone steigt. Polare und sterische Effekte beeinflussen die Reaktivitat nicht.

SYNOPSISIn order to modify the graft polymers of styrene and acrylonitrile onto polybutadiene ( ABS polymers), the preparation of the graft products of styrene, acrylonitrile, and vinyl acetate onto polybutadiene rubber by emulsion polymerization was described and theoretically studied up to a high degree of conversion. Depending on the residual monomer content of the products, the polymer composition obtained in the experiment was compared with the theoretical one for the substitution of certain quantities of styrene, acrylonitrile, or styrene and acrylonitrile by vinyl acetate in the mass ratio of 3 : 1. Deviations were discussed. The specific viscosity of the polymers of styrene, acrylonitrile, and vinyl acetate separated from the elastomer phase, considerably decreases during the substitution of acrylonitrile by increased vinyl acetate quantities.

Die Copolymeren aus Vinyl‐ und Acrylestern werden in abgeschmolzenen Ampullen durch 2 M NaOH verseift. Die aus den Vinylester‐Grundbausteinen gebildeten Säuren werden durch potentiometrische Titration bestimmt; liegen verschiedene Vinylester nebeneinander vor, so wird das Mengenverhältnis der Säuren gaschromatographisch ermittelt. Die bei der Verseifung aus den Acrylester‐Grundbausteinen entstehenden Alkohole werden gaschromatographisch identifiziert und gegen tert‐Butanol als internen Standard quantitativ bestimmt. Ein besonderer Vorteil der Methode besteht darin, daß auch wäßrige Dispersionen ohne vorherige Abtrennung des Copolymeren eingesetzt werden können.
