Analytical validation of a novel point‐of‐care immunoassay for canine N‐terminal pro‐brain natriuretic peptide analysis

Abstract: Background N‐terminal pro‐brain natriuretic peptide (NT‐proBNP) is a widely used point‐of‐care (POC) cardiac biomarker in human medicine. Canine NT‐proBNP is used less in veterinary medicine, possibly due to the lack of a POC canine NT‐proBNP assay resulting in temporal delay, increased degradation in transport, and high reported variability in the available assay. A new quantitative POC analyzer allows fast, onsite measurement of NT‐proBNP, minimizing preanalytical error and reducing variability. Objective We… Show more

“…Cardiac troponin I (cTnI) analysis was performed by shipping serum sample aliquots to Texas A&M University (TAMU GI Lab, College Station, TX), which uses a high-sensitivity ADVIA Centaur cTnI assay from Siemens Healthineers (Siemens Medical Solutions USA, Inc., Malvern, PA) that has been validated for use in dogs [ 19 ]. NT-proBNP analysis was performed using the Bionote in-clinic, fluorescence immunoassay diagnostic analyzer Vcheck V200 and a canine NT-proBNP assay (Bionote USA, Big Lake, MN), which has also been validated for clinical use [ 20 ].…”

“…Although a canine point‐of‐care NT‐proBNP assay is now available, to the author's knowledge there are not yet any published studies evaluating its effectiveness in clinical patients (Harr and others 2022); therefore, more research is needed before definitive recommendations can be made regarding how to use this test in practice.…”
