Analytical Stress Solution and Numerical Mechanical Behavior of Rock Mass Containing an Opening under Different Confining Stress Conditions

Abstract: In this study, the triangle interpolation method for the calculation of mapping functions of plates containing an opening with arbitrary shapes is investigated with an improved method for point adjudgment during iterations. Afterwards, four kinds of openings with typical shapes are considered and the mapping functions for them are calculated, based on which the influence of calculation parameters such as iteration time and the number of terms on the accuracy of mapping function is discussed. Finally, the stres… Show more

“…Figure 14a presents the stress curves for both numerical and analytical solutions in the absence of an inclusion. The numerical solution is obtained through finite element numerical methods, while the analytical solution is derived using complex variable function methods [33,34]. Figure 14b,c depicts scenarios where the elastic modulus of the inclusion is less than (k e < 1) and greater than (k e > 1) the elastic modulus of the external material, respectively.…”

“…According to the research by Tan et al [8], triangle interpolation can be utilized to solve the problem for the parameters A k and B k of a given mapping function for the plane with a single opening, using a specific solving process not detailed in this study. Notably, since the roadway shape in this study is axisymmetric, it was assumed that the roadway itself is symmetric about the x-axis.…”

“…A considerable amount of research has been conducted on rock engineering issues of a single opening, employing the conformal mapping method in conjunction with the complex variable theory for the analysis [5,6]. Tan et al [7,8] introduced the use of the Box composite method and triangular interpolation method for solving the mapping functions of planes with tunnels of complex shapes. Xiao et al [9] conducted a tunnel construction and surrounding rock stability analysis by focusing on the rock fracture evolution during the construction and operation of straight-walled arched tunnels.…”

“…The article published by Tan et al [22] investigated the triangle interpolation method for the calculation of the mapping functions of plates containing an opening with arbitrary shapes with an improved method for point adjudgment during iterations. The results show that the stability and failure pattern of the rock mass is correlated with stress around the opening, which is affected by the opening shape.…”
