Analytical Prediction of the Incremental Inductance of the Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors

Abstract: An analytical method for calculating the incremental line inductance of a permanent-magnet synchronous motor is proposed in this paper. First, the incremental inductance is simplified as a linear combination of the slot inductance and the air-gap inductance, which are both estimated by the equivalent magnetic circuits. The reluctance of the rotor back irons and the stator back irons are ignored when the slot inductance is calculated. However, for the calculation of the air-gap inductance, the iron saturations … Show more

“…Thus, under the condition of maintaining constant ψ f , increasing L d is more effective. There are a variety of ways to increase the machine inductance [25][26][27], such as reducing the air-gap length or the PM thickness to increase the permeance. However, since permeability of NdFeB is quite close to air, the machine inductance will lack the sensitivity to variation of the air-gap length or the PM thickness.…”

“…As shown in Figure 1, in this paper, all three phases are excited by different winding currents, as opposed to the approach used in [21]. It is known that eq L is the sum of the air-gap ( g L ) and the slot inductances ( slot L ).…”

“…However, little attention has been paid to the development of an analytical method for the computation of the incremental inductance in a permanent magnet synchronous machine. In [8]- [9], two-dimensional analytical methods have been presented to calculate the winding inductance of a PMSM. In [8], the proposed 2-D analytical method is simple but ignores the reluctance of the rotor back iron and stator iron.…”
