Analytical Model of a Single Link of Elastic Optical Networks

Abstract: This article discusses and evaluates a model of resources to which multiservice traffic is offered. The initial assumption for the model is that calls of particular traffic classes are always serviced in neighboring allocation units of the resources under investigation. An elastic optical network, in which an allocation management mechanism that allocates an appropriate number of neighboring spectrum units depending on the required bitrate related to a given service class is employed, is chosen as a good examp… Show more

“…These mechanisms have been used for years to describe traffic phenomena occurring in networks and more broadly in multiservice systems. Examples of applications of such mechanisms include those used to shape traffic in multiservice cellular networks [20][21][22][23][24] and in elastic optical networks [8,9,[25][26][27][28][29][30][31][32][33]. In both types of networks, the consequences of introducing a traffic management mechanism can be seen in both the way nodes and the links between them are modeled.…”

“…Parallel to research on the optimal allocation of FSUs in a single link in the EON network, research was carried out to determine the traffic characteristics of these networks (Głąbowski et al, 2022, Głąbowski et al, 2021Yu et al, 2014;Vaezi and Akar, 2015;Erreygers et al, 2018;Kim et al, 2016;Kim et al, 2015). The purpose of these studies was to determine two main teletraffic characteristics, i.e., the distribution of occupied FSUs and blocking probability for specific classes of flows, depending on the intensity of traffic of individual traffic classes, the capacity of the EON link (number of FSUs) and the number of FSUs requested to be served by the streams of individual traffic classes.…”

In the work (Głąbowski et al, 2022, Głąbowski et al, 2021, analytical models were developed to determine the occupancy distribution in a single EON link. These works were based on the Markov chain approximation of the multidimensional service process in the considered system.…”
