Analytical fluid film force calculation in the case of short bearing with a fully developed turbulent flow

Abstract: The main purpose of this paper is to define a methodology to determine the analytical approximate closed-form expression of non-steady fluid film force and of the oil film coefficients for the liquid-lubricated journal bearings in the case of a fully developed turbulent flow regime. The considered model is a symmetrical rigid rotor supported on two lubricated journal bearings; this paper considers the cases of the short bearing approximation, introducing the turbulence correction flow factors in the classical … Show more

“…A surface treatment is essential not only in the area of the adhesive bonding technology [14,21,[25][26][27][28][29][30][31][32][33]. The surface of the carbon steel S235J0 determined for the bonding was mechanically and chemically treated.…”

“…The tribodiagnostic investigations of wear debris from oil lubricated machinery and components is used as a prevention of unwanted failure and as a design tool in the development or optimization of new machinery. In fact, many tribological components are designed to operate with a thick film of lubricant (Ruggiero et al, 2016a(Ruggiero et al, , 2016b, and the lubricating phenomena play a fundamental role in the wear phenomena acting in the tribosystems (Ruggiero et al, 2015a(Ruggiero et al, , 2015bHarika et al, 2013;Brito et al, 2014;Dobrica and Fillon, 2012), being the most relevant factor in the machine elements failure and in the tribo-surfaces deterioration (Maruda et al, 2016(Maruda et al, , 2015Harika et al, 2011).…”

“…Each of these results in its own characteristic form of wear particle, the identification of which is sometimes difficult. These may arise from the external environment or, perhaps, from wear debris of other pairs of surfaces lubricated by the same fluid (Ruggiero et al, 2016a(Ruggiero et al, , 2016bRuggiero et al, 2015aRuggiero et al, , 2015b.…”

“…This method has mostly been used for stability calculations. Subsequently, thanks to more powerful calculation systems and more precise simulation algorithms, it became possible to analyse different phenomena [19,20], such as: cavitation effects [21], thermal effects, shaft tilting effects and fluid inertia effects [22,23]. The behaviour of a dynamic system is mainly mathematically analysed by the representation in the state space and the formalism of the frequency domain.…”
