Analysis of water quality in Miharu dam reservoir, Japan, using UAV data

Abstract: This letter reports on the water quality conditions of the Miharu Dam Reservoir. The water quality conditions appear in nearinfrared (NIR) data collected by an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). Because blue-green algae occur in summer, the water quality of the small lake will be significantly worse at that time. On the basis of the experimental results for data from the months of July and August obtained using a fuzzy regression model, it is found that the UAV data is useful in assessing the water quality conditi… Show more

“…While this method may result in accurate assessments of water body quality with limited areas, it is time consuming and expensive, and difficult to apply in large areas. Moreover, because the results are punctual, they do not necessarily reflect the quality of the whole site [1,2].…”

“…For example, in [33], partial least squares regression and remote sensing inversion models were used for laboratory chemical oxygen demand (COD) standard solution and field actual water body, respectively, using COD sensitive spectrum segment and full spectrum segment, to realize the analysis of COD spectral characteristics of a water body. Moreover, using near infrared (NIR) data collected by UAV, a fuzzy regression model was established to analyze the water quality of Sanchun dam reservoir in Japan [34]. In [35], retrieval of chlorophyll-a and total suspended solids using iterative stepwise elimination partial least squares (ISE-PLS) regression based on field hyperspectral measurements in ignition pools in Higashihiroshima, Japan was performed.…”

“…This trend was also revealed through the bibliometric analysis illustrated in Figure 3. Other water quality parameters that were of interest include the chemical oxygen demand (COD) [26,35,72], Secchi disk depth (ZSD) [26,34,73], total nitrogen [35], total phosphorous [35,72], conductivity [24][25][26]72], water quality index [72], pH [27,74], total suspended solids (TSS) [28,29,75], dissolved Oxygen (DO) [74,76], and turbidity [35,48], in order of importance illustrated by their frequency in the literature.…”
