Analysis of Vibration Control of Nonlinear Beam Using a Time-Delayed PPF Controller

Abstract: This paper presents a study on the performance of a positive position feedback (PPF) controller to suppress the vibration of a horizontal beam under vertical excitation. Time delays in the control loop are taken into consideration to study their effects on the controller performance and the stable region. The integral iterative method is conducted to obtain a second-order approximate solution and the corresponding amplitude equations for the considered system. The stability of the steady-state solutions is asc… Show more

“…e ever growing demand to enhance the performance of mechanical systems and structures has recently pushed research efforts towards the exploitation of nonlinear effects rather than to their avoidance [1,2]. New solutions and innovative designs have been investigated recently to this purpose, especially in the field of nonlinear dynamics and vibration control [3,4]. Mathematical approaches have been adopted to investigate the dynamic behaviour of nonlinear oscillators, with specific emphasis to prescribed nonlinear functions of stiffness [5,6] and damping [7,8].…”
