Abstract:Wind generation systems require mechanisms that allow optimal adaptation of the generator to varying wind speed and to extract maximum energy from the wind. Robust and affordable high-performance methods are also needed for isolated sites. This paper takes this approach, in which an AC switched reluctance generator is used as a generator with a variable rotor speed. Although the voltage obtained is of insufficient quality to connect the generator directly to the power grid, this kind of generator can be used in isolated sites to charge a battery bank with a simple bridge rectifier. Due to the nonlinear behavior of the machine with the position and current, along with the alternating nature of the current that circulates through its phases, the machine experiences cyclical energy transformations of a mechanical, electrical and magnetic nature. This paper analyzes these transformations for the purpose of providing guidelines for machine design and optimization as a wind turbine in isolated sites.

Load connection and disconnection are important factors for a comprehensive investigation on the performance of induction generators, providing theoretical foundation and technical support for the optimization of system configurations and safeguard measures. Based on the transient equivalent circuits of self-excited induction generators under the two-phase stationary reference frame, steady-state motion equations are derived through the steady-state operation analysis. The analytical computation of the motion equations successively gives the necessary condition for the loaded operation, the sufficient condition for the transient operation under a given speed, and the necessary and sufficient condition for the buildup arrival to steady states. Using the holistic analysis approach based on Lyapunov stability theory, this study presents a theoretical analysis approach for transient processes and analytically solves the load ranges under the specified performance indices. Good agreement between experimental and theoretical results verifies the correctness and validity of the theoretical analysis approach and its analytical conditions with better practicability and referenced values in engineering.
