Analysis of total excipients of topical corticosteroids marketed in Korea

Abstract

When we suspect topical corticosteroid (CS)-induced allergic contact dermatitis (ACD), it is important to obtain information about the vehicle as well as the active ingredients involved. For in the case of ACD caused by a component of vehicle it may not be helpful to avoid CS and its cross-reactors. Furthermore, CSs are applied to diseased skin. METHODSThis study included both prescription and non-prescription drugs sold in Korea between March and May 2023. Of the 930 products categorized as topical CSs by the Korean Index of Medical Specialties, 1 419 were in production at the time of the study. Excluding identical products with different dosages, a total of 204 products were studied.Listed components were matched with haptens in the Korean Standard Series (KSS), European Baseline Series (EBS), American Contact Dermatitis Society Core Allergen Series 2020 (ACDS) and Cosmetic Series (CoS) (Chemotechnique ® ) databases.
