Analysis of Three-Core Composite Submarine Cable Damage Due to Ship Anchor

Abstract: Suspended submarine cables are prone to likely mechanical damages due to ship anchors, which represent a significant threat to the reliability of power transmission and information communication networks. This paper is aimed at presenting a detailed investigation to the dynamic response of a ship anchor impacting the suspended section a submarine cable in order to reduce the risk of cable damage. In this regard, a three-dimensional and dual nonlinear model of the anchor affecting a subsea cable is established … Show more

“…Therefore, timely detection of submarine cable faults, while assessing the health level of the line and detecting abnormal situations, can diagnose the type of fault, quickly identify the cause, and immediately come up with a response plan when the problem occurs. Quick troubleshooting has significant guidance and reference significance for improving maintenance efficiency, reducing economic losses, and restoring production [10][11][12] . This article is based on Brillouin scattering model, combined with the inherent relationship between fiber stress, temperature and Brillouin frequency shift.…”

“…The authors also compared the results with dual-media and single-media analytical formulations. For the deformation of submarine cables caused by the ship anchor, a three-dimensional dual nonlinear model was established in [5] using a FEA software called ABAQUS.…”
