Aim: Since Türkiye has a geography located on fault lines, the possibility of an earthquake occurring in this region will always continue to exist. After an earthquake, a variety of traumas can occur. Thoracic traumas are also injuries frequently experienced in case of earthquakes.
Method: 124 patients, including pre-earthquake thorax and post-earthquake thorax were investigated at the Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University Thoracic Surgery Clinic. The pre-earthquake group was called group 1, and the post-earthquake group was called group 2. Gender, age, type of trauma of the patients as well as the file records of traumas were examined.
Findings: The frequency of trauma increased in men compared to women. There was a significant increase in hemothorax cases. It was observed that blunt trauma etiology was again the most common cause of trauma, but the etiology of blunt trauma increased in favor of falling from a height.
Conclusion: It is planned to eliminate the housing problem over time, and work on this issue is being carried out intensively in the region. These differences in trauma patterns will transform over time, similar to the pre-earthquake period, as life returns to normal.
