Analysis of Thermal Comfort in Intelligent and Traditional Buildings

Abstract: The paper analyses thermal comfort in intelligent and traditional buildings in Poland. It provides a comprehensive study on the subjective assessment of indoor environment conditions as well as on parameters that influence human thermal sensations and preferences. Direct measurements of physical parameters (e.g., air and globe temperature, relative humidity) as well as simultaneously conducted anonymous questionnaire studies were used to provide the necessary data. The study covered all seasons and a large num… Show more

“…Today, great attention is paid to the shape of buildings [6,7], their orientation [8,9], the mutual distance between buildings and building density [10,11], vegetation use [12,13], maximization of daylight use [14,15], the use of modern construction materials [16,17], and shading devices, which will be chronologically (from 1998 to 2024) analyzed below. In [18], the effects of passive cooling using window overhangs for a building located in Shiraz (Iran) were investigated experimentally and theoretically.…”

“…Such conditions often have a detrimental effect on the health of the inhabitants within the tent and may potentially influence medical outcomes [4][5][6]. In order to fulfill the health needs of those inside, emergency medical tents require enhanced management of the internal thermal environment to ensure thermal comfort [7][8][9][10].…”

“…Thermal comfort is commonly understood as the state of satisfaction a person experiences regarding the temperature and environment within an occupied space, this evaluation being a subjective one. Nevertheless, a precise definition is challenging, and conceiving a universal definition becomes even more complex due to the intertwined nature of human physical and psychological states [8].…”
