The present article presents the results of analytical research on the possibility of using a mixture consisting of diesel oil and ethyl-tertiary-butyl ether in different percentages of EETB to power compression-ignition engines. The calculations were carried out for a four-stroke diesel engine intended for use as a power generator, among other things. In order to illustrate and verify the correctness of the calculations, a mathematical model was built that confirmed the correctness of the calculations. The calculations focused on a thorough analysis of the elemental composition (content of individual elements) of the fuel and, in particular, the carbon content in the fuel. A calculation algorithm was applied for mixing diesel fuel with ethyl-tertiary butyl ether in a share of EETB 5% + 95% ON, 10% EETB + 90% ON, 20% EETB ++80% ON, 30% EETB + 70% ON, 40% EETB + 60% ON. In this study, it determined the parameters of the working medium, the parameters of the environment and residual gases, and the processes (charge filling, compression, combustion, expansion) and effective parameters of the engine. The calculations used in this study led to heat balance, and a summary of the obtained results and their comparison with diesel oil are also described in this study. The results show the feasibility of using a mixture of ethyl-tertiary-butyl ether as a fuel in diesel engines. The results are very similar to those for 100% diesel. The results of our calculations confirming the possibility of using ether for fuel and thus maintaining similar engine operating parameters.

The sound generated by drive units is one of the aspects that are addressed in sustainable transport development strategies. The regulations of the European Union, which indicate the ecological aspect of the use of internal combustion engines as one of the most important, also refer to the level of sound emission generated by these engines. The use of alternative fuels to power combustion engines allows not only to reduce the toxic components of exhaust gases, but also to reduce the noise they generate during operation. The manuscript presents the study of a drive unit powered by mixtures of diesel oil and fatty acid methyl esters, in which the software regulations of the control system were modified. Studies have shown a decrease in the level of sound emission when powered by alternative fuels.

Ecological approach to transport including the fuel which is used in combustion engines involves a necessity of alternative solution application. The study shows test result analysis of the amount of exhaust gases affecting natural environment. The tests were performed for a 81W self-ignition engine with a direct fuel injection. The experiment was conducted for a fuel mixture containing 70% of diesel oil 30% of fatty acid methyl esters. The results regarding concentration of fuel components obtained for the analyzed mixture were compared with the results obtained for a diesel oil without fatty acid methyl esters. Based on the analysis, it can be said that 30% additive of fatty acid methyl esters to diesel oil is not enough to decrease the amount of harmful substance emission to the atmosphere by a power unit.
