Analysis of the Subdivision Errors of Photoelectric Angle Encoders and Improvement of the Tracking Precision of a Telescope Control System

Abstract: Photoelectric angle encoders, working as position sensors, have a great influence on the accuracy and stability of telescope control systems (TCS). In order to improve the tracking precision of TCS, a method based on subdivision error compensation for photoelectric angle encoders is proposed. First, a mathematical analysis of six types of subdivision errors (DC error, phase error, amplitude error, harmonic error, noise error, and quantization error) is presented, which is different from the previously used ana… Show more

“…Therefore, it is necessary to introduce filtering algorithm to eliminate these interferences. At present, the commonly used denoising method are band-pass filters and mean filters [19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26]. However, as general filters, band-pass filter and mean filter do not consider the prior information that the grating encoder signal is sinusoidal, and thus do not achieve the best filtering result.…”

“…Guanbin Gao et al [15] studied the mounting eccentric error of the circular grating angle sensors and proposed a compensation method to compensate the error of the joints of an articulated arm coordinate measuring machine. For self-errors of the angle measuring sensor, such as sub-divisional error, Jiawei Yu et al [16] established mathematical models for different types of sub-division errors of photoelectric angle encoders. They also proposed an algorithm compensation method based on the established models to improve the tracking precision of a telescope control system.…”

“…Motor drives play a key role in modern industry, where the operation of an internal closedcircuit system is largely determined by the optional feedback sensor [6]. Incremental optical encoders are often found in computer numerical control machines, printers, papermaking, food and beverage automation, and problem assessment of rotating machines, where it is mainly used to obtain feedback speed loops [3][4][5].…”
