Analysis of the setting and predictive factors of the effect of attack according to game ecology

Abstract: The objective of this study was to identify how the ecological variables influence the setter during the setting and what were the predictive factors of the attack effect among Brazilian teams ranked from the 1st to 4th place in the volleyball Women’s Super-League in 2016-2017. We analyzed 768 attacks from 10 matches played among the teams. A descriptive analysis was performed and, to identify how the setting location differed in relation to the ecological variables, the One-Way ANOVA (factor 1 = setting locat… Show more

“…The reception micro-analysis confirms the game trend existing in high-level volleyball, in which it is necessary that the serve restricts the offensive construction [ 18 , 46 ]. Therefore, directing the serve in more distant zones of the net and in the net outside hitter showed a decrease in the offensive structuring, as well as reducing the reception effect [ 22 , 43 ].…”

“…Therefore, opponent blocking was analyzed as it interferes with the attacker behavior and the offensive construction in KI. Blocking were classified as: Triple (1x3), Triple Broken (1x(2 + 1)); Double (1x2), Double Broken (1x (1 + 1)), Single [1x1], No Block by Setter Merit (NO BLOCK +); and No Block by Setter Error (NO BLOCK -) [ 43 ]. Block Touch as computed with the attack contact by the block, as follows: the ball attacked Touched the Block (Block-T) or the ball attacked did not touch the block (Block-NT).…”

“…Therefore, this age period is very important for young volleyball players. Currently, studies have evaluated selected motor abilities of female volleyball players [ 31 , 32 ] or the efficiency of actions during a game with senior players [ 2 , 33 ]. Anthropometric parameters and motor tests results are decisive factors for the selection of youth national female volleyball teams [ 34 ].…”

“…In contrast, for the distance between the setter and the attacker in position 2 or 1, negative values were assigned. The distances were calculated the instant the ball left the setter's hands and were measured from the shortest distance between the projection of the setter's hip and the attackers and blockers at the lower edge of the net (Rocha et al 2020). Kinovea software (version 0.9.2) was used to this end.…”

“…The center of the blockers and attackers heads was also projected on this axis of reference, and for lifters and blockers, the distance was measured at the moment of lifting (the last frame in which the ball was in contact with the lifter's hand). In the case of the attackers, the video was advanced until the moment of contact of the attacker's hand with the ball (Rocha et al, 2020).…”
