In normal operating conditions, the mains voltage level provided by low-voltage distribution networks follows time-varying patterns within permissible limits. The statistical characterisation of disturbances inserted into the power grid by nonlinear electrical devices is useful since operators are able to establish power quality limits and assess the residual capacity of networks for new smart installations, which may include a multitude of power electronic devices. Existing standards related to emission tests recommend using a power supply source in the measurement circuit with a nominal voltage parameter. However, the range of permissible variations of relevant supply voltage parameters may have an impact on conducted emissions. It can also be considered that the symptoms of supply voltage variations may manifest themselves differently depending on the equipment’s architecture and also the range of frequency observation with reference to harmonics and supraharmonics. The purpose of this study is to measure and analyze non-intentional conducted emissions injected into the power grid by lighting devices, methodically, by numbers of studies under different supply voltage conditions within two frequency bands. The emission is evaluated separately in two ranges: up to 2 kHz and 9-150 kHz. Obtained results show that the level of conducted emission introduced into the low voltage network by modern lighting sources like fluorescent and LED lamps varies with the supply voltage level compared to the emission generated in the nominal voltage level condition. Additionally, in the case of a spectrum of higher frequencies, some trends of shifting of the characteristic frequency bands are recorded. The potential of the obtained results is to complement the knowledge of the emission of modern lighting sources, which can be further used for digital models of these devices and to estimate the impact on the grid under real working conditions.

Impact of Harmonic Currents of Nonlinear Loads on Power Quality of a Low Voltage Network–Review and Case Study

The paper presents a power-quality analysis in the utility low-voltage network focusing on harmonic currents’ pollution. Usually, to forecast the modern electrical and electronic devices’ contribution to increasing the current total harmonic distortion factor (THDI) and exceeding the regulation limit, analyses based on tests and models of individual devices are conducted. In this article, a composite approach was applied. The performance of harmonic currents produced by sets of devices commonly used in commercial and residential facilities’ nonlinear loads was investigated. The measurements were conducted with the class A PQ analyzer (FLUKE 435) and dedicated to the specialized PC software. The experimental tests show that the harmonic currents produced by multiple types of nonlinear loads tend to reduce the current total harmonic distortion factor (THDI). The changes of harmonic content caused by summation and/or cancellation effects in total current drawn from the grid by nonlinear loads should be a key factor in harmonic currents’ pollution study. Proper forecasting of the level of harmonic currents injected into the utility grid helps to maintain the quality of electricity at an appropriate level and reduce active power losses, which have a direct impact on the price of electricity generation.

With the rapid development of LED technology, the lighting effect of LED lamp belt in the atmosphere lamp has been unable to meet the needs of the modern market, and the COB lamp belt has gradually entered the public field of vision due to its advantages of high light uniformity, low junction temperature and large luminous Angle. In this paper, the stability, light uniformity, junction temperature and other performance of the two kinds of lamp belt under different color temperature and different power were analyzed by setting contrast experiment. It was found that LED lamp belt had uniform light and poor heat dissipation effect due to chip distribution characteristics, and it would accumulate a lot of heat and appear color shift phenomenon when continuously lit. The COB lamp belt can not only maximize the heat dissipation performance of the substrate, but also achieve more uniform light distribution by the way of multi-chip arrangement. The relationship between the thermal performance and chip spacing is analyzed by optimizing the design, which plays a guiding role in the actual production of the lamp belt
