Analysis of the Photophysical Behavior and Rotational-Relaxation Dynamics of Coumarin 6 in Nonionic Micellar Environments: The Effect of Temperature

Abstract: Abstract:The photodynamics of Coumarin 6 have been investigated in three nonionic micellar assemblies, i.e., n-dodecyl-β-D-maltoside (β-C12G2), p-tert-octyl-phenoxy polyethylene (9.5) ether (Triton X-100 or TX100) and n-dodecyl-hexaethylene-glycol (C12E6), to assess their potential use as encapsulation vehicles for hydrophobic drugs. To evaluate the effect of the micellar size and hydration, the study used a broad temperature range (293.15-323.15 K). The data presented here include steady-state absorption and … Show more

“…Coumarins have been used as sensors for broad varieties of analytes, including cations, anions, small molecule toxicants, and biological macromolecules . Their sensitive emission spectra with a strong dependence on the local microenvironment makes coumarins excellent sensors for such environments, and their favorable photophysical properties overall facilitate their usage in high performance luminescent sensing systems. , …”

“…The 2-0 transition is non-resonant and relates to a non-radiative lifetime (τ 20 ). Intrinsic non-radiative decay of C6 is on the order of 11.8 ns43 which is significantly longer than any other time scale in the system dynamics. Therefore, we neglect the effect of the intrinsic non-radiative decay and use the parameter τ 20 to model the effect of additional non-radiative energy transfer taking place upon SPI-MC isomerization.…”
