Analysis of the neutralino system in three–body leptonic decays of neutralinos

Abstract: Neutralinosχ 0 in supersymmetric theories, the spin-1/2 Majorana-type superpartners of the U(1) and SU(2) neutral electroweak gauge bosons and SU(2) neutral Higgs bosons, are expected to be among light supersymmetric particles so that they can be produced copiously via direct pair production and/or from cascade decays of other sparticles such as sleptons at the planned Large Hadron Collider and the prospective International Linear Collider. Considering the prospects of having both highly polarized neutralinos … Show more

“…This is due to CP invariance which requires different intrinsic parities for the χ 0 2 χ 0 1 pair in case they are higgsino-like or gaugino-like [39][40][41][42][43]. This allows, in principle, for testing the prediction of lopsided gauge mediation of a light higgsino-like neutralino.…”

“…However, we have to remark that, differently from the case studied in refs. [39][40][41][42][43], lopsided gauge mediation does not benefit from a copious source of moderately boosted χ 0 2 from the decay chains of the colored sparticles, and therefore the leptons relevant for this analysis have p T ∼ m χ 0 2 − m χ 0 1 ∼ 10 GeV which makes them detectable but rather soft. A quantitative assessment of the potential of the LHC to measure the details of the invariant mass distribution of such soft leptons would be needed before concluding that the higgsino nature of the light neutralinos of lopsided gauge mediation can be tested at the LHC.…”

“…In particular, we find that the behavior of the M ll distribution near the endpoint is completely different between the two cases of ÿ1 and 1. This can be understood in terms of the selection rule for the orbital angular momentum due to the CP properties of the two neutralinos 0 1 and 0 2 [57]. For 1 ( ÿ 1), the M ll distribution near the kinematical endpoint, which corresponds to the limit of slow moving 0 1 in the 0 2 rest frame, should give an S-wave (P-wave) behavior, leading to M ll / m ÿ M ll 1=2 (M ll / m ÿ M ll 3=2 ) near the endpoint.…”
