Agent-based systems are an important application area of artificial intelligence and are used in decision support systems. Rather than being a problem-solving tool, agent-based system is a tool for developing and testing alternative solutions according to various scenarios. In this context, agent-based modeling is a very effective method to support decision makers in emergency situations to evaluate different risk scenarios and then make decisions quickly and effectively. Moreover, agent-based modeling is a very useful method to support decision makers in situations of high complexity and uncertainty. This paper introduces current studies performed with several agent-based modeling tools and software environments such as NetLogo, AnyLogic, MATSim and Repast. Apart from these, various agent-based modeling tools exist, but these four tools have been chosen because they are still receiving software updates and being widely used in the most current studies. The aims of this study are to review these four agent-based modeling tools, present state-of-the-art research conducted with these tools and provide a reference of agent-based modeling tools for researchers who are developing decision support systems in architectural, urban and transportation design research fields. In this paper, after giving a brief definition of an agent-based system and explaining the importance of concepts such as emergence and complexity in the field of agent-based modeling, it is explained who uses the agentbased models for what purpose, when, where, why and how to use agent-based modeling through selected examples from state-of-the-art studies carried out in different research fields. Furthermore, what current studies and agent-based modeling tools teach us and how future studies can benefit from agent-based models are briefly discussed.

The main goal of the paper is to develop and study an integrated energy supply system model in the AnyLogic software environment using a multiagent approach. Creating a single integrated system will allow: to implement new functionalities; increase reliability by improving redundancy and faster decision making in normal and emergency situations; determine the most profitable supply route individually for each consumer, based on cost and design features; participate consumers with their own energy sources in the process of energy supply of the system. The multiagent model of the integrated energy supply system was created in the AnyLogic software environment, which uses advanced technologies for modeling complex systems that will allow the most visual and detailed display of the interaction mechanisms of objects in the system and analyze the results. This study describes in detail the resulting multiagent model, its main agents, and their state diagrams. A description and analysis of an experiment conducted using this model is also provided. The results show that the multiagent model of the integrated energy supply system works correctly and performs all the specified functions.

As a highly dense area for passengers, the airport departure hall is particularly characterized by the easy gathering of passengers, irregularity, and difficulty in command, which has become a high incidence of emergencies. For the evacuation problem in case of emergencies, the vast majority of passengers randomly choose the shortest path from the exit to escape, which will lead to congestion at some nodes and prolonging of the evacuation time. Therefore, this study proposes a better evacuation method considering the dynamic change in the spatiotemporal congestion of passengers. First, this paper constructs an evacuation network diagram for the departure hall of the Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport terminal building, simplifies the evacuation process into point-to-point evacuation, and proposes a time-varying network algorithm to optimize the emergency evacuation of the airport. Second, on the premise of obtaining the number and dynamic distribution of passengers in each area in real time, a linear programming model with the shortest evacuation time as the optimization objective is established, and the current optimal evacuation path of passengers is dynamically calculated. Finally, the two evacuation methods, random evacuation and evacuation, based on a time-varying network algorithm are simulated and analyzed by AnyLogic software. The results show that the evacuation scheme based on the time-varying network algorithm can effectively relieve the passenger congestion of some evacuation paths and safety exits. The evacuation time is reduced by 74 s, the evacuation efficiency is improved by 14%, passenger congestion at some evacuation routes and safety exits can be effectively relieved, and the global optimization of the emergency evacuation of passengers is achieved.
