Analysis of the Ki‐67 antigen at the invasive tumour front of human oral squamous cell carcinoma

Abstract: It was concluded from this study that cell proliferation (as measured by the Ki-67 antigen) at the ITF had a strong positive relationship with histological grading in human oral SCC.

“…It was found that the mean value of Ki-67 LI in grade I (47.8%) was double than that of grade III (88.0%) and grade II (73.2%) having an intermediate value between the two, thus marking a clear-cut difference in the mean value in different grades (p = 0.000; Table 1). These results are consistent with Tumuluri et al, 19 Kurokawa et al, 20 Tumuluri et al, 21 and Premlatha and Uma. 22 Thus, the assessment of cell proliferation in various types of tumors may prove to be an important adjunct to histologically based tumor classification.…”

“…The highest Ki-67 expression was found in poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma. Also, findings of studies Tumuluri et al 19 21 (2010) were showing concordance with the finding of the present study where increasing trend of mean Ki-67 LI was observed with the increasing histopathological grades of oral squamous cell carcinoma.…”

“…Many studies showed the detection of Ki67 antigen provided a significant information about degree of aggressiveness and prognosis of OSCC (Tumuluri et al, 2002;2004;Kurokawa et al, 2005). But, relatively few studies have investigated Ki67 expression in VC and its comparison with SCC, particularly focused on the oral cavity cases (Drachenberg et al,1997 ;Theegarten et al, 1997 ;Saito et al,1999 ;Adegboyega et al,2005 ;Stankiewicz et al,2009 ).…”
