Analysis of the episootic situation of cattle leukemia in the Siberian Federal District

The dynamics of recuperation work on the example of two farms similar in economic and production and technological characteristics of the Novosibirsk region were studied. The data on leukemia at the time of the beginning of active recuperation work and the results after several years were presented. The infection rates of the livestock by different age groups and in different parts of the studied farms were analyzed for 2017-2022. The infection rate of cows on the farms tended to decrease slightly from 2017 to 2019 and was in the range of 8-4%. The infection rate of the heifers was 5-12%. Registration of new cases of serology response in the group of the calves in the farm No. 1 decreased from 9.9 to 4.9%, in the farm No. 2 from 14.2 to 7.1%. The positive dynamics of implementation of the recovery plan using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for serological diagnosis was shown. After switching from the immunodiffusion in agar gel reaction (AGID) to ELISA and its first use, the number of newly detected animals increased in all age groups in both farms compared to the previous period. In subsequent studies, the percentage of new cases decreased significantly. Physical separation of the groups of animals with different statuses, placing them in different sections and clear control with the immediate exclusion of infected animals from the production process led to a noticeable improvement in the epizootic situation on the farm. Aspects causing delay in sanitation work were noted, in particular, untimely separation of animals into groups after serological diagnosis and establishment of their infection status. Complete replacement of infected cattle in unhealthy herds or wards by groups of serology-negative animals can significantly reduce the recovery period, especially at the final stage.

An epizootiological survey of livestock farms of Dagestan was conducted, the main infectious diseases common in the region were considered, and measures taken to protect against them were described. At present, the Veterinary Service is undertaking systematic efforts to prevent the occurrence and spread of infectious diseases such as brucellosis, leukosis, rabies, pasteurellosis, blackleg, bradsot and enterotoxemia in the Republic. Among the above-mentioned diseases reported in 2023, brucellosis and leukosis are responsible for the vast majority of outbreaks and diseased animals detected in them. In particular, the following diseases have the largest share in the nosological profile of quarantinable infectious diseases based on the number of detected infected localities during the period under study: brucellosis (52.63%), bovine leukosis (30.70%), rabies (8.77%), enterotoxemia (3.51%), pasteurellosis (1.75%), bradsot (1.75%) and blackleg (0.88%). In total, 1,812 animals were affected with quarantinable infections and 35 animals died in 114 infected localities. Most often over the past year, quarantinable infections were reported in cattle (69.59% of cases) and small ruminants (29.36%); in 1.05% of cases, the diseases affected horses, cats, wild animals and birds. In order to maintain animal disease freedom and sustainable growth of livestock production, the Veterinary Committee of the Republic of Dagestan annually implements measures to prevent the occurrence and spread of 75 diseases of animals and birds, including 10 highly dangerous ones. Anti-epizootic measures taken in the past year included a total of 93.8 million vaccinations and 6.2 million tests performed in the diagnostic institutions. Plans for the prevention of highly dangerous and other contagious diseases of animals and birds were fully implemented.

Relevance. A contagious disease widespread in economic damage among cattle (cattle) is viral leukemia, registered in the Dagestan province since the 60s of the XX century. The region has distinctive features due to the natural and climatic conditions of the area. In this regard, the analysis of the zonal features of the spread of the cattle leukemia virus (VLCRS) remains an urgent task in the further study of the epizootic process and the development of a comprehensive program of health measures.Methods. The object of serological research was livestock, kept on the territory of agricultural formations of all forms of ownership. In order to study the zonal features of the manifestation and persistence of the occurrence of VLCRS infection, a set of data was used, such as the number of identified, rehabilitated and disadvantaged points remaining on the end of the year, the number of seropositive animals in the immune diffusion reaction (AGID), reflected in the reporting documents of the Veterinary Committee of the Dagestan Republic for 2022.Results. The results of monitoring studies determined the difference in the epizootic situation on viral leukemia, due to the zonal classification of rural areas and urban districts of the region. In particular, out of 138 leukemia-affected localities, found during the analyzed period, 134 (97,1%) were officially registered on the plain territory. Of these, 65 are in the mountainous and high-altitude zones, 4 is in the foothills. In the foothill province of Dagestan 4 (2,9%) points were noted. Consequently, the mountainous and high-altitude zones are free from leukemia infection and do not pose an epizootic danger.
