Analysis of the Electroconsolidation Process of Fine-Dispersed Structures Out of Hot Pressed Al2O3–WC Nanopowders

Abstract: Fabrication of alumina–tungsten carbide nanocomposite was investigated. Characteristics of the densification and sintering were analyzed considering both the nano-size particle starting powders and the processing stages. Different heating rates were generated during densification and consolidation with a maximal load was applied only after a temperature of 1000 °C was reached. Due to the varying dominance of different physical processes affecting the grains, appropriate heating rates and pressure at different … Show more

“…Designing new materials with predefined properties is perhaps the most important issue and the task of modern materials science [36]. The cutting Al 2 O 3 -based ceramics, strengthened with 10...20 wt % of silicon carbide fibers, ensure high purity of the machined surface [37,38]. Silicon carbide strengthening makes it possible to apply this material when machining heat-resistant nickel alloys with cutting speeds exceeding 200 m/min and a feed rate of 0.16 mm/rev.…”

“…Alumina-based ceramics are popular materials for cutting tools due to their good wear resistance, high hardness, heat resistance and chemical stability [ 2 ]. There are many reports on the effects of various reinforcements, such as graphene [ 3 ], SiC [ 4 , 5 ], SiC w -Si 3 N 4 [ 6 ], TiC [ 7 ], TiC-TiN [ 8 ] and WC [ 9 ], and the works on property improvement are still going on. Basically, sintering methods are used for the fabrication of ceramic matrix composites [ 10 , 11 , 12 ].…”
